Prince Mashele, co-author of The Fall of the ANC: What Next?, counts Frantz Fanon, Hegel and Friedrich Nietzsche among his literary heroes.
In a short interview with Michael Titlestad for The Times, Mashele, who co-wrote The Fall of the ANC with Mzukisi Qobo, says he feels it is his “social responsibility” to write, adding that writing “deprives me of peace to observe the public being misled by dishonest politicians”.
Mashele reveals an eclectic reading list, and says the first book that challenged his mind was Proposed Roads to Freedom by Bertrand Russell.

Frantz Fanon, GWF Hegel, Roberto Mangabeira Unger, Bertrand Russell, Immanuel Kant, Karl Popper, Friedrich Nietzsche, Herbert Marcuse, Niall Ferguson, Vladimir Lenin, Wole Soyinka, Francis Fukuyama, Martin Meredith.
